Jerry Dechter - Tenor Sax

Jerry Dechter plays clarinet, alto and tenor saxophone.  He began playing in the 8th grade.  He took lessons in the late 1940's from Lee Hardesty, who was the lead alto player in the Capital Theater Orchestra in the days of vaudeville. Jerry played in various high school bands and dance bands in the Washington area in the late 40's and early 50's.  He also played in the 257th Army Band of the DC National Guard for 5 years.  Jerry stopped playing while in pharmacy school at GWU and did not resume till 36 years later after moving to the Annapolis area. He now plays in various groups 3 or 4 times a week.
