Scott Rich - Trumpet & Flugelhorn
A lifelong resident of Bowie, MD, Scott began
playing the cello in the 4th grade and switched to trumpet the following year.
"My parents were music lovers, and at a young age I had access to the
family stereo, which was a pretty big deal. We always had the best and
latest pop albums. The popular trumpeters of that time, Al Hirt,
Doc, and Herb Alpert, sounded like they were having fun on their recordings - and
the trumpet was so much easier to carry to school!!"
He credits Mr.
C. M. Weems with broadening his desire to play during his middle school years.
At Bowie High, Scott was a member of the award winning BHS "Starliners" big band
for 5 years under the direction of Col. Joe Carley. His instructors
include Larry Skinner, Emerson Head, Tim Eyermann and Mike Crotty. Scott also
attended Memphis State University and studied jazz under Dr. Tom Ferguson.
As CT's 5th trumpeter, Scott enjoys playing
the understudy ("I get
to learn each book!") in the section. He
credits his wife Pamela, and his children Angie and Dave with encouraging his
part-time musical pursuits, which besides freelancing also includes Sundays at Belcroft Bible Church. Scott plays L.A. Benge instruments and Scott
Holbert mouthpieces exclusively.
